My country poster:TOGO

June 4, 2010

So this is my poster for our project “Legacy of Imperialism”. We had to create a “travel poster” as an assignment. And this is what I did. It’s not the Best poster I could of done but I did my best, I’m not such a creative person when I have a million other things in my head, but at least I did it, and I think it looks pretty decent. But in the brighter side my group WON, we placed on the top 5, I was actually really surprised because I didn’t think we were going to win, I wasn’t trying to be a pessimistic person but, I thought that we could have done somethings better and prepared more so we could have done a better presentation, overall I’m extremely happy that my group won and we got funded, Even my group members Chrystal and Eddie didn’t believe it. I’m glad we were all in the group even Alex, because I think we all got to know each other a little bit more than we already did, even though we didn’t really communicate much but we managed to work together. This was a Great experience for me, even though it was really stressful with all the work we had to do. Now I think that I can do basically anything in this class because if we managed to finish our project and win, then this means we can do anything we set our minds to.

Career Exploration

April 20, 2010

Thinking back to our field trip to KQED, I think that it was a really great experience, because in a regular class I probably wouldn’t have gone on a field trip at all. Some things that could have been better was being more interactive with the employees and their work at the station.

The work site was pretty much calm and very mellow. I actually thought it would be a little bit chaotic, because they might be setting up the set or just by running around doing a variety of things at a time. Another thing that I observed was that everyone was very cooperative with each other. They are really good at working as a team. The employees there are also very responsible because they have to always keep track of time.

While I was there I learned many things about the setting and how the building has to be customize in order to be used as a recording room for a TV station. In my opinion I think that’s really cool because you have a room within a room and no sound can get in or out. Another things that I found interesting was the radio station. But I also think its boring for the person who runs the show, because he/she has to stay in the room for the whole day. If they go out its only to get their food or something like that. Everything there is so organized for example the timing of the show. The person can only say a specific thing in a restricted amount of time or else they will get of the schedule.

Some things that I thought we would see was a show being broadcast, but we didn’t. I was really hoping for this, but I guess we can’t always get what we want. Well at least we got to see the radio station. When I was at KQED I was hoping that we would all be doing something like hands-on or things like that but we didn’t, I was kind of disappointed but it’s OK.

Overall, this field trip was a good experience. Not only because we got to see how a station like KQED works but because it gives us more knowledge about other things that we didn’t know. Hopefully we get to do something like this again.

College Visit to UC Berkeley

March 5, 2010

Berkeley's campus

My visit to UC Berkeley was very interesting, because I got to see what a real college is like and I also got the chance to see how people act and what’s expected out of them while they’re in college. Some of the things that really surprised me about UC Berkeley was the campus because I didn’t know that it was that big. I thought that it would be big, but not as big as the one I saw. I think there’s bigger college campuses but, this was the first time I’d ever been to a college campus before so it was a really good learning experience for me.

Before I went on this field trip to Berkeley, I thought that it was going to be boring, but when we arrived there I saw a lot of interesting things. For example there were lots of people who were outside handing out fliers about their clubs and other things that they were interested about and wanted other people to know about. This showed that they’re dedicated and passionate about what they do and they actually want to make a change in their community. I was also very impressed at how you can make you’re own club no matter how weird or strange other people may think it is, and how you can make up the thing that you want to major in even if the college doesn’t have it. Another thing that I like about UC Berkeley is that they have their own transportation and that it’s free for the students and faculty. This is very convenient for the students that live far away from the campus and because they can go out and shop in the local stores and what not.

One of the things that I didn’t know much about was about the cost to go to college, and about the financial aid that you can get to help you pay for it. When I heard the amount of money that you had to pay I was like “What!”. I think it’s a lot of money, but I guess we have to sacrifice a few things here and there if we really want something. But still, it’s too much money to pay. Hopefully the government does something that lowers the price. Even though it’s a lot of money, we can still get loans, scholarships, and other financial aid to help students pay for college. I think this is a really good thing because they’re opening more doors to other people who probably didn’t even have a chance of going to college.

0verall, I think the trip was worth it, because not only did we learn more about college, but some of us that had never been to a college campus before got the chance to experience the whole environment and how college life is. I learned how you have to be really dedicated to school in order to accomplish what you want.

dress/color The thing that i did to this picture, is make it  colorful. So i added color to it instead of just being black and white. The specific things that i did were masking the hue and saturation to change the color.
